Half of Managers Expect Layoffs in 2025 – According to a new report from ResumeTemplates.com, nearly half (45%) of U.S. managers said their company will likely lay off workers this year. ResumeTemplates surveyed 1,000 U.S. managers in January, and most expect modest impacts. Among companies expecting layoffs, 28% plan to lay off fewer than 5% of their workforce, and 44% project to lay off between 5% and 10%. Most companies (51%) cited an economic downturn as the driving force behind layoffs.

Small Businesses Expect to Increase Employee Count in 2025 – According to a quarterly analysis by CEO coaching organization Vistage, nearly 2 in 3 CEOs of small and midsized businesses (SMBs) expect their total number of employees to increase in 2025. These CEOs (65%) are optimistic about hiring and growth this year. The latest Vistage quarterly confidence score is the highest recorded since the second quarter of 2021.

Major Employers Scaling Back DEI Programs – Even though diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs have gained popularity over the last few years, several large organizations are starting to roll back or eliminate their formal initiatives. DEI efforts include employee resource groups, diversity training, sponsorships, hiring targets, representation goals, and external survey participation.
